The Brief

Not every paediatric clinic needs bright colours and cartoon characters. For Haven Paediatrics, the vision was something more refined: a healthcare environment that feels calm, welcoming and genuinely considered. Warm timber finishes, muted blue tones and a custom curved reception set the tone, while generous natural light and thoughtfully planned spaces create a seamless experience for families and staff. The result is a practice that feels less like a clinic and more like a place where people are cared for. The tenancy at Chermside Health Hub provided the ideal foundation, with generous ceiling heights and abundant natural light creating a sense of openness rarely found in healthcare environments. The brief also called for four spacious consultation rooms, enhanced acoustic privacy, dedicated administration and staff facilities, and integrated security and technology features to support the delivery of a high-end patient experience.

The Outcome

Haven Paediatrics opened exactly as the client envisioned: a premium healthcare experience that respects parents as much as it serves patients. Warm timber floors, muted blue tones and soft pendant lighting create an environment that feels calm without being clinical. The curved reception counter anchors the arrival experience, while the considered spatial layout keeps patient flow intuitive and staff sightlines clear. The generous proportions of the tenancy and abundant natural light create a sense of openness rarely associated with healthcare environments. Spacious consultation rooms provide comfort and privacy for families, while dedicated administration and staff facilities support the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice. Integrated security and technology systems work seamlessly in the background, helping deliver the high-end patient experience outlined in the brief. Parents notice the difference immediately. It’s a space that communicates care and professionalism, a benchmark for what a first-time practice owner can achieve when the brief is clear and the team delivers on it.

The Design

Haven Paediatrics was designed as a calm, welcoming healthcare environment that redefines the traditional clinical experience for children and families. The client’s vision was to create a space that feels safe, warm, and reassuring, balancing clinical functionality with a softer, more human-centred approach. The design responds to this by integrating gentle forms, natural textures, and a considered layout that supports both patient comfort and staff efficiency. From arrival through to consultation, the space has been carefully planned to create a seamless and intuitive experience. A custom curved reception counter creates an immediate sense of softness and approachability, setting the tone from the moment patients enter. A calming combination of warm timber tones, muted blues, and soft neutrals helps reduce sensory stress while maintaining a clean, professional environment. The layout creates a natural progression from public to private zones, improving patient movement and allowing staff to maintain clear lines of sight where needed.

Construction

Built across a tenancy selected specifically for its generous ceiling heights and exceptional natural light, two features that do a lot of the heavy lifting in a space designed to feel open and calm. The fitout delivered four large consulting rooms with acoustic treatment, a staff kitchen and breakout area, a dedicated administration office, and integrated security throughout. The custom curved reception counter was fabricated as the centrepiece of the arrival experience, requiring careful sequencing across joinery, flooring, and lighting trades to land exactly right.
